Specialist Physiotherapist
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) defines outlines Specialisation as:
Specialisation as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists is a title conferred to physiotherapists who have attained the highest level of expertise in their particular field of physiotherapy.
Having demonstrated this expertise by completing a rigorous training and examination process, these expert physiotherapists become Fellows by Specialisation of the College. Fellows of the College contribute to the professional education of colleagues, actively engage in their own professional development, and have had involvement in research activities.
At Insight Physiotherapy we have one Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, Mark Gibson.
Whilst Specialist Physiotherapists such as Mark are happy to treat all types of patients, the patients who would most benefit from a review with Mark would be a patient who:
- Is not progressing or to responding physiotherapy/medical treatment as expected.
- The physiotherapist or doctor is uncertain of the diagnosis or prognosis.
Physiotherapists and Doctors are welcome to refer patients to Mark for second opinions. The aim of a Specialist Physiotherapy assessment is to assist in providing a direction of management that is best for the patient. Mark will not take over the ongoing treatment of your patient, and will always discuss with you his thoughts on the patients presentation and treatment requirements with you. If requested Mark will also happily provide a written report.
Patients are also welcome to directly refer themselves to be seen by Mark as a private patient.
Mark also regularly reviews Workers Compensation patients for second opinion assessments. These referrals can be instigated through the patients compensable body.
Should you be interested in discussing this service more, or wish to refer a patient to Mark for an assessment, please contact us for more information.
